Event Details

Join us for a special Black History Month program celebrating the life and legacy of Kittie Knox—
a trailblazing African American cyclist who challenged racial and gender barriers during Boston’s 1890s bicycling craze.

Bicycling historian and local author Lorenz Finison will explore Knox’s remarkable story, her impact on Boston’s cycling culture, and her lasting influence. The program will also highlight recent Boston-based theatrical productions inspired by Kittie Knox, featuring a special appearance by Hampton Richards of Boston University College of Fine Arts and the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, who portrayed Kittie Knox on stage.

This engaging presentation blends history, culture, and the arts to honor a true Boston original.
