The Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, Massachusetts, is home to America’s oldest continuously operating car collection. It is located in the historic Carriage House on the 64‑acre Larz Anderson Park estate.
The museum’s collection began in 1899 when Larz Anderson and his wife, Isabel Weld Perkins Anderson, purchased a Winton 4‑hp Runabout. Over the decades, they acquired 32 motorcars and horse‑drawn carriages, retiring them to the Carriage House on their estate. After Isabel’s death in 1948, she bequeathed the estate and collection to the town of Brookline, with the museum established as a non‑profit to preserve it
Accessibility Statement: There is no elevator in the building. To access the lower level, there is an interior flight of stairs, or we can walk around the side of the building, to enter at a lower fire door. The stairs leading down to the Anderson Gallery is the only major accessibility hurdle that guests may encounter. Besides the stairs, both floors are flat and level, making them easy to move around!
